The Prince George Cougars will head to St Albert tomorrow for the Edmonton Oil Kings tournament. 33 of the 36 remaining players will board the bus including some of their young guns but when the bus returns, the numbers will be reduced.

Volleyball is just around the corner and once again the Thompson Rivers University volleyball team is in Prince George helping local players and hoping they might think about heading to Kamloops.

The Prince George Cougars will host a CHL Subway Series game November 18th. The game will feature a squad of Western Hockey League All-Stars and the Russian National Junior team. The contest will be the final game in the cross-Canada series between the Russians and Canadian Hockey League players. All six games will be broadcast nationally. Cougar season ticket holders will be able to purchase tickets to the game beginning Saturday morning at 10:00.

The 12th annual Rio Tinto Alcan Cup wrapped up in Kin 1 with two local teams squaring off. The Shooters Pub Devils met the defending league champion BX Pub Bandits in the final.

The defending local lacrosse champions are doing exactly what they did this past season and are hoping to carry it on to a Rio Tinto Alcan Cup championship. The BX Pub Bandits are undefeated and will play in the final at noon today against the Shooters Pub Devils. The Tabor Sports Pub Stylers face Mackenzie in the bronze medal game beginning at 10.

The final lacrosse championship of the season began last night. The 12th annual Rio Tinto Alcan Cup saw all 4 teams in action. The defending local champs the BX Pub Bandits beat the Shooters Pub Devils 16-7. In the second contest it was the only out of town team from Mackenzie falling 12-3 to the Tabor Sports Pub Stylers. This morning the Bandits hook up with Mackenzie at 10 and at noon its the Devils and Stylers.

A pair of games last night in the North Cariboo Soccer league. Mr Jakes got by Accelerated Physio 4-3 and Eden Spas spanked Eecol 6-2. Regular season play will wrap up in the league this week and the playoffs will begin after the September long weekend.

The Cougars will open camp tomorrow with around 80 players expected. The first ice session will be at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. The veterans have been on the ice together this week and more will be expected of them at the camp.

The 70 Spruce Kings hopefulls are on the ice trying to make an impression on the coaches and scouts. The Kings come into this season looking to get back into the playoffs.

Brandon Hunter scattered 4 hits over seven innings to lead the Rona Red Sox to a 3 - 1 win over the Barry Yip Remax Shooters Gladiators and win the Men's Baseball Championship. The Red Sox won the series 3 games to 1. Hunter captured two individual awards, including the Playoff MVP trophy. The league's regular season MVP was Garret Cumpstone of the Titans.

Hockey season opens with the Prince George Cougars and Spruce Kings breaking for their training camp this weekend. The Kings will hit the ice for the first time tomorrow afternoon at 3. Assistant GM Mike Hawes says they answered one of their big off season questions recently by adding an overage goalie.

The UNBC Sports season kicks off this weekend with the soccer teams playing a couple of exhibition games. The Timberwolves will host Grande Prairie Regional College Saturday and Sunday. The new season gets underway just in time for the new UNBC Athletic Director to show up.

The Prince George Spruce Kings have added some experience to their coaching staff.
When the Kings get their season underway, head coach Ed Dempsey will be reunited with an old friend as Tom Bohmer returns for a second stint with the team. He was previously an assistant coach during the 2004/05 season. and was most recently the GM and head coach with the Quesnel Millionaires during the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons.
Jason has coached in the Prince George hockey circles for many years and brings extensive experience with BC Hockey's Best Ever Program. Garneau was also a WHL scout with the Cougars for the past several years.
