The Bx Pub Bandits took down the Twisted Cork/Regional Security Stylers 22-16 in PG Senior Men's Lacrosse League action last night . The win ties the Bandits with the College Heights Pub Assault for top spot in the standings with five wins and one loss. Next action has the Mackenzie LumberJax in town to tangle with the Shooters Pub Devils at 8 tomorrow night in the Coliseum.

Local hockey product Michael Garteig and the Penticton Vees won the 2012 RBC Cup yesterday ,with a 4-3 victory over the Woodstock Slammers. The Prince George goalie made 22 saves and Joey Benik scored the game winning goal with less than a minute remaining ,to help lead the Vees to the 42nd National Junior A Championship in Humboldt Saskatchewan .

Next action is tonight when the BX Pub Bandits take on the Twisted Cork/Regional Security Stylers at 8 in the Coliseum.

Local resident Michael Garteig made 20 saves, helping the Penticton Vees to a 3-0 win over the Soo Thunderbirds and into the Royal Bank Cup final today. The Vees will meet the Woodstock Slammers at 4:30 this afternoon for the national Junior A title. Penticton beat Woodstock 2-1 in the round robin.

Last night Pacific Sport Northern BC handed out awards for the first time at their third annual Fan the Flame Dinner. Bi-athlete Sarah Beaudry was named the Athlete of the Year. Judo athlete Kristen Yawney, Snowboard Cross racer Evan Bichon, Speedskater Carolina Hillier and Bi-athlete Emily Dickson won the first ever Rising Star Athlete Awards. There were 13 nominees. Current World Cup Ski Cross Champion and X-Games Gold medalist Kelsey Serwa was the keynote speaker.

An impresssive spring camp fo Cariboo Cougar forwards Hayden-James Berra and Eli Jarvis receiving commitments from the Cowichan Valley Capitals for the coming season.Berra finished his minor hockey career with 33 points in 34 games with the Cougars this past season .Jarvis led the Cats in points through the 2011-2012 season, his second with the team, with 23 goals and 32 assists as a 16 year old.

Local boxer Kenny Lally is onto the next round in his Olympic Qualifier in Rio de Janerio and he didn't even have to throw a punch. Lally's opponent from Uruguay was a no show. Now he gets set to take on a boxer from Puerto Rico in the next round. Lally met the same fighter in April in Puerto Rico and lost a split decision. Lally needs to finish in the top two to go to the Olympics.

It wasn't the opening the Penticton Vees had been hoping for at the Royal Bank Cup. The Vees dropped a 2-1 decision to the Soo Thunderbirds. Penticton did out shoot the T-birds 45-15. Local product Michael Garteig took the loss in net. The vees are just the third Pacific Region champion in the last eight years to lose its opening game at the national championship. The other two – Burnaby in 2006 and Vernon in 2010 – finished the tournament by hoisting the RBC Cup. Penticton takes on host Humboldt tonight.
